Choosing hat materials by season
A quick overview of common hat materials and when they sell best.

Material affects comfort, appearance, and the season in which a hat sells.
Cotton and cotton blends
Cotton and cotton blends are soft, breathable, and easy to wear, which makes them ideal for year-round caps. Washed cotton gives a softer, slightly vintage look.
Polyester
Polyester is light and dries quickly, so it works well for outdoor and travel hats such as bucket hats and sun hats.
Corduroy
Corduroy has a ribbed texture that adds warmth and character. It suits autumn and winter flat caps.
Knit fabrics and fleece
Knit fabrics are the classic choice for beanies. Fleece linings add warmth for colder regions.
Faux leather and faux fur
Faux leather and faux fur appear on trapper and aviator-style winter hats, combining wind protection with warmth around the ears.
Care matters too
Most structured hats should be spot cleaned rather than machine washed. Including care guidance on your product pages helps customers keep their hats in good shape.
Each HatMonde product page lists the material and care instructions for that style. To plan a range across seasons, read how to choose hat styles for a retail store.
