Fit is the most common reason customers hesitate to buy a hat. Understanding three measurements helps you choose styles that work for most of your customers.

Head circumference

Head circumference is the fit range of the hat. Most adult heads measure between 55 and 60 cm (21.7–23.6 in). Adjustable hats usually cover this range, which makes them the easiest choice for retail. Our size guide shows how to measure and a reference table in centimeters and inches.

Brim length

Brim length affects both look and function. Flat caps usually have a short brim of around 5–6 cm. Baseball caps are longer, and wide-brim sun hats can reach 8–15 cm for more shade.

Crown depth

Crown depth describes how deep the hat sits on the head. A deeper crown feels more secure; a shallower crown gives a lower, neater profile, as with ivy and flat caps.

Tips for retailers

  • Add a simple “how to measure” note on your own product pages.
  • Prefer adjustable styles if you sell online and want fewer returns.
  • Treat all measurements as approximate; hand measurements can vary by 1–2 cm.

Each HatMonde product page lists these measurements. For building your range, see how to choose hat styles for a retail store.
